2nd Birthday Celebration

To celebrate Daryl's 2nd birthday, we decided to invite our family members to a dinner party. We were thinking that since it's already his 2nd birthday, we don't have to have a big celebration. Thus the low key celebration this year. In addition, it's also an excuse for Kel's family members to get together as they don't do that much.

The celebration is held at J K Don Cafe & Bar which is located at 201 Telok Kurau Road #01-04 Kurau Court. The cafe serves all kinds of food - Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Western, etc. There is even a pool table there for our guests to play if they feel like it. It is opened by 1 of Kel's good friend, thus we can be assured of good food & service.

The venue

Instead of a buffet style dinner party, we opted for an ala carte 1. We both feel that it might be better coz our guests can order what they feel like eating instead of being restricted to what we had ordered beforehand. However, in order not to let them go hungry while waiting for their food to be cooked, we ordered some side dishes such as sashimi, sushi, taro balls, japanese siew mai, etc to be served 1st.

Mum & Kat came over to my place 1st in the afternoon so that we can go to the cafe together. Pris will meet us there as she had to work in the morning. Before setting off for dinner venue, we took some pics with Mum.

We reached the cafe at about 5.30pm so that we can await for our guests to arrive. While waiting for them, we took some pics.

Me & Daryl. As you can see, it's getting increasingly difficult to get a good pic with him together.

After the photo taking, Kel & Daryl decided to play some pool. Since it's Daryl's birthday, Jacky (the chef cum manager) decided to open up the pool table so that we & our guests can play for free the whole night. We were very touched by his gesture.

Chris & his family were the 1st to arrive. While waiting for the rest of our guests to arrive, his daughters decided to learn to play pool too.

While our guests are arriving, Daryl had his dinner 1st. It's 1 of the privileges of being the birthday boy - you don't have to wait for all the guests to arrive before you can eat your dinner. :p

When our guests arrived, we entertained them & got them to place their orders for their main courses. While waiting, they had some of the side dishes, played some pool or chatted with each other.

At 9pm, we had the cake cutting ceremony. The cake is an ice cream cake which is handmade by Jacky. However, to be honest, while I am impressed with his cake making skills, I wasn't too impressed with its appearance. Jacky had asked a friend to decorate the cake, but the decoration is to girly for my liking. Haiz... Nevermind, it's Jacky's original creation afterall. As long as the cake tastes nice, I think that I can live with it.

Now it's James's gf's turn to be caught feeding him. What a lovey dovey couple. :p

After the cake cutting, we stayed inside the cafe to eat the cake & chit chat. Daryl, on the other hand, went out of the cafe to play with Cherie (Jason's daughter) or mei mei as he called her.

From about 10pm onwards, our guests started to leave. I think that most of them enjoyed themselves at our party. Most told Kel that they enjoyed the food & the chance to get togther with each other. For us, we are glad that we organised this party with our family members. I took some pics with my family again before they leave.

Daryl also enjoyed himself a lot at the party. He was so happy that he didn't want to sleep even though it's way past his bedtime already. Since it's his birthday, we indulged him by letting him watch a Sesame Street VCD. At the same time, we took a pic with his ang paos for remembrance.

Daryl with his ang pows. Thanks a lot to all his uncles & aunties for being so generous. He also received some birthday gifts. However, we were too tired to bring them in from the living room to take pics. Think I'll take the pics tomorrow when Daryl opens them.

When Daryl finished his Sesame Street VCD, we switched off the TV & the light & he was knocked out very soon. What a day...

2 years old

Daryl finally turns 2 years old today. When he woke up, we change him into this new outfit which I bought from Kidz Cottage. Btw, I don't recommend purchasing from Kidz Cottage. I find that their stuff are more expensive than Little Tots Closet & their service is not as personalized as the latter.

Daryl holding his 1st ang pow from Ye Ye. Kel's dad gave him the ang pow last night before Daryl slept. See how happy he is.

After opening his ang pow, we went out to the living room so that Daryl have his breakfast & open his presents from us & Auntie Eileen.

Daryl posing in his new Adidas shoes which was a gift from Kel. His current shoes are kinda of tight already, thus Kel thought of buying a new pair for him. I am amazed at how fast his feet had grown as we bought just his current shoes during CNY. At the rate that he's growing, I think we would need to 'upgrade' his shoes every 6 months already.

Daryl with his birthday presents. From left to right - Auntie Eileen's present, the Sesame Street board books which I bought for him, the remote control toy car which Asty bought for him, his new Mickey Mouse sandals which I bought for him & the Mega Bloks Farm Set which I bought for him.

Daryl with Auntie Eileen's present. Thanks Auntie Eileen, he loves it...

There's a Chinese tradition which states that the birthday boy / gal has to eat eggs on their birthday. Therefore, Kel the doting dad asked Asty to boil a hard boiled egg for Daryl. Then he has the 'honour' to feed the birthday boy.

After Daryl's sumptuous breakfast, it's time to play with his presents. I think that Kel is more excited than Daryl in opening up his presents & playing with them. This shows that there is always a child in every adult. :p

In the pics above, Kel is helping Daryl to open up the Mega Bloks farm set. After opening it up, Kel & Daryl had a great time playing with it & the rest of his toys. They only stopped when it's time for lunch.

Daryl & Daddy

Daryl can be such a Daddy's boy at times. Tonight, I managed to capture a vid of him in 'action'.

Daryl has a habit of reading his books or book book as he called them every night before he sleeps. Tonight is no exception. As Kel had an early golf game tomorrow morning in JB, he was home early today so that he can sleep early. Thus, tonight is 1 of the rare times that he accompanied Daryl when he's reading.

In the vid below, you can see Kel teaching Daryl some new words. The funniest thing is, when Daryl managed to say the correct word, he would lean over to Kel so that Kel can give him a kiss. This went on for a long time. I was laughing when I saw it & couldn't resist taking a vid of it.

No Need

Kel taught Daryl a new word today. But I don't know whether it's a good idea or not. :p

When Daryl woke up this morning, Kel & I went to play with him on our bed. Kel was telling Daryl that he have to wake up & bath already as mummy is bringing him to have lunch with mummy's friends. However, Daryl was still lazing on the bed as he was enjoying the playtime with Daddy. Then Kel told Daryl that he has to be a good boy so that mummy will bring him out more often. I retorted that if he don't need me to carry him all the time, then he's a good boy already. Thus, Kel told Daryl that he's a big boy already, so he must walk by himself already & don't need us to carry him anymore. Then Kel asked him, "Daryl, do you need mummy to carry you anymore?" Daryl didn't answer him. However, he's got this cheeky look on his face. Kel then got a thought. He taught Daryl how to say "No need". Daryl followed. I must say that we are quite impressed as his pronunciation is very accurate. So the conversation went...

K : Daryl, do you need mummy to carry you later?
D : No need
K : Do you need mummy to carry your bag for you?
D : No need
K : Okie, that's a good boy. Can you get up & go pong pong now?
D : No need
K : Daryl, you cannot be a notti boy k. If not, mummy will not bring you out.

Daryl didn't reply his daddy. But he's got a cheeky grin on his cheek

K : Do you need mummy to spank your backside if you are a notti boy?
D : No need

*faint*

Sigh, I forsee that this word is going to be his favourite from now onwards.
